I use this a lot when I have to paint. My favorite is Benjamin Moore paints as they are by far the best quality but are very expensive, except their mustiness which are $10, even for their $74/can AQUA which is AWESOME paint. On one occasion, while painting my whole basement in an off-white /light beige Colour, I bought 5 cans of AQUA that were all very similar in Colour, placed them ALL in a 5 gallon pail, stirred them up together and had enough of what is now the same coloured paint to do everything. I was so proud of myself for thinking of that. Nearly $400 of paint for $50.

Use a hammer AND an old towel when closing up a paint can. Place the lid on top of the can and put a towel over the lid. Then place the towel over top. Softly hammer the sides of the lid closed. The towel will prevent extra paint from splattering everywhere (if this has happened to you, you know how frustrating it is).
Brushes, rollers, sponges and tarps can add up. Ask friends and neighbors if you may borrow their paint supplies. Or buy a kit with all you need from an online resource, and save by purchasing everything at once rather than à la carte.
While you can achieve some nice effects by painting with acrylics on paper, the reason I wouldn't really recommend it for beginners is because the acrylics will soak into the paper. Acrylics are hard to blend in the first place, but when they soak into the paper, they will be even harder to blend. Plus you can achieve greater brightness and vividness of colors when you paint with acrylics on canvas or wood. Finally, because canvas and wood are stronger than paper, they can easily handle far more layers of acrylics than paper can.
If you paint on paper, unstretched canvas, or a wooden panel, you will need something to prop up your surface as you paint, and then place that on an easel. (More about this in a second.) If you paint on stretched canvas, you can either prop it up on an easel, or you can use push pins or nails to hang the painting directly onto a wall as you paint.
Investing in the best oil paint supplies will have a huge impact on your art. Oil painting needs very specific equipment, and not skimping on your supplies will ensure you won't need to buy twice. Of course, the most essential supplies will always be paints, brushes and canvases but there is a plethora of other kit around and some of it could be considered essential.
